Nasser Al Ajami - Kuwait wins the 'Million’s Poet' for the first time

UAE (Abu Dhabi) - In a magical night, a Kuwaiti poet has wine the precious title of Nabati poetry “Million’s Poet” Wednesday night in Abu Dhabi.

Poet Nasser Bin Thouani Al Ajami succeeds to gain the highest points from the jury panel and public voting. His total points reached 67 points.
HE Shaikh Nahyan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, minister of higher education and scientific research crowned the winners at Al Raha Beach Theater in the capital in a live show broadcast on Abu Dhabi TV.

By winning the title Nasser also won the grand prize of the competition (UAD 5 million ($1,362,000). His last poem in the show was a talk between father and son; where he talks to his son Abdullah about his life experience and wisdom. He said:

Smile if life's fortune smiles to you
And be ready for the tough paths
If you are stabbed from the back
Take it as these are the dangers of the road you took
Do not negotiate your morals
They left you in fire while they are in the shade
Money may buy human consciences
But it cannot buy their hearts
I presented you from my silent thought a portrait
You reflect on it and leave me the pain
If life's problems caused my sun to set 
Then you are all my hope and your sun is shining

In the second position came poet Fallah Al Moragi from Kuwait with 63 total points. He won a cash prize of (UAE 4 million ($1,090,000).  His poem was on the greatness of late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of UAE.

Saudi female poet Hissa Helal, came in the third position and won a cash prize of 3 million AED ($ 817,000). She gained 62 points after delivering a poem on people living in darkness.

In the fourth position came Saudi poet Sultan Al Asaimer. He was given 59 points and won a cash prize of 2 million AED ($ 545,000). His poem was on a lost love.

The fifth position came Saudi poet Jaza’a Al Baqmi, He gained 56 points and a cash prize of 1 million AED ($ 272,000). His poem was on the pride of belonging to home country.

The show, sponsored and produced by Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH),  presents 48 poets, carefully selected by a panel of experts on Nabati poetry (dialect poetry), from thousands of applicants after a six-week tour of the Arabian Gulf countries and Jordan  with contestants from all over the Arab world. The poets battle it out, seeking to impress the jury and the audience with their poetic skills, in the hope of making it through to the grand final.

Contestants are judged using a mixture of jury votes, live audience votes via the in-theatre voting pods and SMS voting throughout the weeks.

The show, watched by more than 20 million each week, aims to revive one of the ancient forms of poetry known in the region fore thousand years.
