Egypt exports $4.86 billion with 22% increase in the first quarter of 2010

Egypt's non-oil exports jumped 22 percent in the first quarter of 2010, said Egyptian Trade and Industry Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid.

The non-oil exports hit 26.84 billion pounds ($4.86 billion) compared to 21.82 billion pounds in the same period in 2009, according to SIS.

The increase proved that this sector has recovered from the impact of the world economic crisis, he said.

The Ministry seeks to push the exports to 200 billion pounds by 2013 in line with President Hosni Mubarak's directives, he added.

On the other hand, The Egyptian-US business council held its first meeting on Sunday under Taher Helmi.

Businessmen from the two sides, representing some 24 major companies, participated in the council meeting.

The meeting was attended by Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Rachid Mohamed Rachid.

In statements, Rachid said that the council will review during its current session in Cairo ways to increase the volume of trade exchange and facilitate the entry of Egyptian exports into US market.
