Turkish President: Oman witnessing a comprehensive development

President Abdullah Gul of the Republic of Turkey met with members of the Omani-Turkish Business Council at Barr al Jissa Resort within the framework of his official visit to the Sultanate.

In a speech during his meeting with Omani-Turkish Business Forum, President Gul thanked His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for inviting him to visit the Sultanate, warm welcome and generous hospitality.

He pointed out that the Sultanate is witnessing a comprehensive and successful developmental marsh under the wise leadership of His Majesty the Sultan, noting that the Sultanate enjoys stability and strategic location.

The Turkish President explained that Turkey is trying to spread security and stability in the region, and seeks to resolve problems by dialogue affirming that the Sultanate has good relations with the region's countries, and its policy stems from the concept of dialogue to resolve the problems of the region.

He said that there is a harmony in the political field between the two friendly countries, stressing his determination to develop bilateral relations.

He pointed out that this visit will open new horizons between the two countries in the education, training, trade, investment, security and economy fields. The Turkish President called upon the Omani businessmen to set up joint investment with Turkish businessmen besides the existing partnerships, pointing out that there are huge developmental projects have been achieved in the Sultanate.

On the global financial crisis, President Gul said that the Sultanate is one of least affected countries by this crisis due to its successful policies in dealing with this crisis to continue achieving the development march.

He affirmed that his country has achieved a great development in various fields, such as, tourism, trade, industry, energy, services and other fields.

It is worth mentioning that the Omani-Turkish Business Forum began its deliberations at Barr Al Jissa Resort. Maqbool bin Ali bin Sultan, Commerce and Industry Minister opened the forum during which he gave a welcoming speech to the participants and commended the bilateral relations between the Sultanate and the friendly Republic of Turkey.

At the end of the forum, TEFIROM and Zubair Corporation signed an agreement worth $500 million in strategic alliance to develop distinct business opportunities in the Sultanate and the Republic of Turkey.

The agreement was signed form Zubair Corporation by Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, member of the Corporation's Board, while from TEFIROM, it was signed by the Chairman of the company.

The Turkish Company will work in the Sultanate in the renewable energy (wind farm), in addition to, water works, trade, construction, natural gas and manufacturing sectors.

On the other hand, Khalil bin Abdullah al Khunji, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) met with Huseyin Uzulmez, member of the Board of the Turkish Chambers of Commerce and Industry Council on the sidelines of the Omani-Turkish Business forum.

The meeting discussed mechanisms of cooperation and coordination during the upcoming period between OCCI and the Turkish Chambers Federation in the aspect of enhancing the partnership and investment between businessmen and businesswomen and establishments of the private sector in the Sultanate and Turkey and promoting investment opportunities and incentives available in the two countries.

Moreover, A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the archival field was signed at Al Bustan Palace Hotel between the Sultanate's Government, represented by the National Records and Archive Authority, and the government of the Republic of Turkey, represented by the Directorate General of State Archive affiliated to the Prime Minister's Office.

The MoU was signed from the Omani side by Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed al Dhowyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archive Authority, while it was signed from the Turkish side by Professor Yusuf Sarinay, Director General of State Archive.

In a statement to Oman Press (ONA), Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed al Dhowyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archive Authority said that this MoU will enable cooperation in the archival field between the two friendly countries and facilitate the access for the Sultanate into the records and documents in the Turkish archives. Simultaneously, it will help in exchanging expertise, holding scientific and documentary forums, sending specialists from the National Records and Archive Authority to get training in the Turkish archive and exchanging expertise between both countries.

He also said that this cooperation comes as a result of a contact lasted more than a year, pointing out that the Turkish archive is considered one of the international archives and has a long experience in this field, particularly in the archival field.

He also explained that exchanging expertise, and specialists would be a source of progress in the field of records and archive in the Sultanate and Turkey pointing out that the work on this MoU will start today. Visits will be exchanged between the specialists from both sides, and in the light of these visits, the MoU will come into force according to a practical programme during which the MoU remains as subject to implementation for three years
