WIB Conference - Oman empowering women in business

Women in Business Conference (WIB) 2010 will kick-off on Sunday at Muscat Intercontinental Hotel under the theme ‘changing business face woman as an economic power'.

The two-day conference that is organized by ENVENT aims to support business women through sharing experiences among the women speakers and Omani businesswomen. It also aims to providing communication opportunities through the internet and enabling the successful businesswomen to play a bigger role in the coming period.

Salma al Hashmi, Chief Executive Officer of Envent and founder of the annual Women in Business conference, said, "I am very excited about these workshops. They will help the next generation of business women and entrepreneurs in Oman to effectively embrace the use of information technology in their business practices as well as learn leadership skills that really work."

The conference includes three workshops. The first one will cover strategy development. The second on "leading with emotional intelligence" whereas the third one will translating ideas into results". It will be on the economic elements surrounding women in Oman.

Panel discussions on "establishing Balance between work and life", how information and communications technology can empower women' through the immense usage of used ICT in the past decades in many businesses and daily life and restructuring the global economy.

The topics 'Strategy Development' and 'Leading with Emotional Intelligence' will be delivered by America-Mideast Educational and Training Services, Inc. (AMIDEAST), a private, non-profit organization that aims to expand opportunity through education and training. Since its establishment in 1951, more than two million students and professionals throughout the Middle East and Africa have benefited from its educational services and training programs.

"AMIDEAST is very pleased to team up with Envent to deliver these workshops at the Women in Business Conference 2010," said Noor Dawood, AMIDEAST Training Programs Manager. "With this year's focus on women as an economic force, we believe that our workshops are particularly relevant, enabling the delegates to increase their effectiveness in the workplace by learning about best practices in leadership and by integrating IT more fully into their business strategies.

For the 2010 conference, Envent is working with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and has included a special focus on the use of IT technology as a tool in business. The Information Technology Authority will use the conference to platform their 'Women and Information and Communication Technology (ICT)' initiative.

In recent decades, the widespread incorporation of ICTs into many tiers of business, political processes and everyday life has caused fundamental restructuring of the global economy. ICTs have increased the ability to work remotely and to communicate across geographical, social and gender divides. This part of the conference will focus on the impact of ICT on women and their use as a tool for their empowerment and the promotion of gender equality.
