Emirati Takht band attracts audience at WOMAD Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi – the Emirati Takht band, supported by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), had made their first public performance last Saturday Trispan Tent at WOMAD Abu Dhabi 2010 on the corniche.

The band was launched lately by ADACH to revive emirati traditional music and nurture talented classical musicians.

WOMAD Abu Dhabi audience enjoyed one hour of classical Arabic music mixed with modern music. The band consists of Arab classical instrument players: Ali Obaid and Hamad Mansouri on oud (lute), Omar Abdul Qader and Bassam Abdul Satar on qanoun, Suraj Mohammed on bass in addition to saxophone player Mohammed Murshid.

The band performed number of popular classical Arab Music from deferent folklores such as UAE, Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon.

Abdullah Al-Ameri, Director of Culture and Arts Department at (ADACH) said "we are glad that the band draws audience attention in their first appearance. The band will continue on presenting our authentic old and modern music that represent our deep rooted culture”
