Morocco is a regional model of success in the field of entrepreneurship, David Hamod, head of the National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce, told Moroccan News Agency.

Morocco is an excellent model as Moroccan entrepreneurs achieve a high level of success and the country has a good business climate, Hamod told MAP on the sidelines of the launch of "Al-Mubadarah: Arab empowerment initiative", an initiative that aims at strengthening links between Arab entrepreneurs and their American peers.

The National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce intends to consolidate relations between its members and their Moroccan counterparts within the framework of the Free Trade agreement signed between Morocco and the USA, Hamod said.

The excellent ties between the two countries offer great opportunities for firms' development, he noted, adding that the summit on entrepreneurship, held this week in Washington, is an important initiative for the promotion of entrepreneurship and socio-economic development in the Muslim world.

On the other hand, Morocco took part, Sunday in Washington, in the meetings of Arab and African governors to the World Bank (WB) as part of the WB and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings scheduled on April 24-25 in Washington.

The Arab Governors' meeting advocated further reforms, including improving business climate and liberalizing trade to promote growth and create job in the Arab world. It tackled ways to strengthen WB resources and carry out necessary actions to support development and fight poverty.

The Arab Governors also discussed means of shoring up the developing countries' participation in the WB and IMF decision-making process to achieve an equitable distribution of voting powers among countries.

The African Governors' meeting centered on issues related to the WB initiatives as part of its mission to fight poverty, particularly in the sub-Saharan African countries.

This meeting was also an opportunity for the African governors to express their need for more funding to upgrade infrastructure, develop the private sector, combat climate change and promote regional integration.

On this occasion, the Treasury Director Zouhair Chorfi held talks with Vice-President of the European Investment Bank Philippe De Fontaine Vive on bilateral relations and the progress of projects funded by this financial institution.

The Moroccan delegation met with Chief Economist of the World Bank, Justin Lin, to present Morocco’s macroeconomic framework, stressing the Kingdom's economy resilience to the global financial and economic crisis. (MAP)
