Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will again be a notable presence at the Marché du Film during the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. Its seaside pavilion 139 in the International Village will be open daily from 10am to 6pm all through the Festival, 12-23 May. Hosts include ADACH (the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage), ADFC (the Abu Dhabi Film Commission), and Abu Dhabi Film Festival as well as Imagenation Abu Dhabi and twofour54.

The Pavilion will offer the Emirate’s leading film and TV organizations a chance to promote Abu Dhabi as a global filmmaking hub where international co-productions are facilitated, where Emirati cinema and production resources are marketed to the international marketplace, and where regional and international films and filmmakers have an opportunity to mingle at a uniquely exciting film festival rapidly gaining recognition on the world stage as it prepares its 4th edition. The Pavilion will also serve as a meeting place for filmmakers and accredited industry delegates, and will host a series of daily events throughout the Cannes Film Festival.

“Our pavilion at Cannes exemplifies Abu Dhabi’s growth as a filmmaking center and its increasing international recognition,” said Eissa Saif Al Mazrouei, Director of Special Projects for ADACH. “It will highlight many of the extraordinary attractions of Abu Dhabi and the UAE, and will offer valuable exposure and business opportunities for our burgeoning film industry.”

“We hope to raise awareness of our latest initiatives to boost the regional industry, while also promoting Emirati films to the world market, and reflect the Arabian hospitality through different events, panels, and film and TV professionals’ gatherings which will take place at the Pavilion,” said ADFC Director David Shepheard.

“With excitement already building for the next edition of our newly renamed Film Festival,” said ADFF Executive Director Peter Scarlet, “and with many enthusiastic inquiries already pouring in about Sanad, our recently announced development and post-production fund, our presence at Cannes this year promises to be both exhilarating and exhausting!”

“It’s a very active year for us at Cannes, as a number of our high-profile projects will be showcased, including the world premiere of  Fair Game, which has come out of our partnership with Participant Media as well as River road Entertainment,” said Stefan Brunner, Imagenation Abu Dhabi COO.  “We are also looking forward to announcing our first Emirati feature film project, the first of many to show our commitment to developing films and industry talent in Abu Dhabi.”
