Syrian and French Archaeologists: Seminar Held on Cuneiform Heritage of Mari

The Syrian-French 11th Seminar for Cuneiform Studies held two sessions on topics related to the family in the Amorite Age, Sumerian Family, Ebla family, Women in Ugarit, a family dispute about mother heritage in Mari , and about women residence in the Royal Palace of Zimri-Lim.

Syrian and French Archaeologists attended this seminar and discussed many topics in relation to the family during the Amorite Age in light of its tribal and civil status and the keenness of kings and men of religion on its unity and on the organization of its affairs, as far as marriage, divorce, polygamy, upbringing and adoption of children, division of properties.
cuneiform_Mari_SYRIA
Researchers and specialists from Syria and France participate in the Seminar, organized by Damascus University in collaboration with Archaeology and Museums Directorate, Collège de France, and Sorbonne University.

Rector of Damascus University, Wael Moualla, said at the opening of the Seminar that Syria possesses a treasure of knowledge and heritage, which makes of it the Mecca for researchers, intellectuals and tourists.

Dr. Fayssal Abdullah, the coordinator of the Seminar, stated that it aims, through the discussion of 13 researches about the family in the 8th century B.C., to spread more than 20 thousand texts of Cuneiform Heritage of Mari, unearthed since 75 years, to our universities, as to show the importance and greatness of our history.

Dr. Jean Marie Duran, Director of Cuneiform Studies in the French Collège de France, described the unearthed Cuneiform heritage as a treasure which sheds light at the past of world humanity. (ASNA)
