Jordan, Egypt to promote trade and economic cooperation

Egypt Minister of Trade and Industry Rasheed Mohamed Rasheed and Jordanian Prime Minister Samir al-Refaie discussed ways to promote bilateral relations in the economic and trade domains.

Jordan and Egypt said they would form ad hoc committees to upgrade joint cooperation in the sectors of trade, services and transport.

An agreement on this score was reached at a meeting between Rasheed and his Jordanian counterpart.

The committees will be entrusted with removing any obstacles in the three sectors in order to guarantee a smooth movement of trade between both sides.

Rasheed said at the meeting that Egypt is keen on promoting joint cooperation with Jordan in the various domains despite the adverse impact of the global economic and financial crises.

He said he felt at a meeting with Jordanian Prime Minister that views of the two sides are close over upgrading joint relations.

Egypt and Jordan have reached an agreement with Iraq on cooperation in the domain of trade, investments, industry, energy and transport in the coming phase.

"We would like to tap the Iraqi market", he said, adding that there are ample opportunities in the spheres of investment, trade and transport between Egypt and Iraq.

The two sides also discussed the recent developments in the region. (SIS)
