King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Syrian Universities Building Scientific Cooperation

Saudi Arabia (Riyadh) – Minister of Higher Education Ghiath Barakat discussed with his Saudi Arabian counterpart Khaled al-Anqari the outcomes of the Higher Education Forum of Saudi universities and its role in boosting cooperation with Syrian universities.

The two sides agreed on inviting specialists from Saudi universities to Syria to get acquainted with the reality of Syrian universities.

They also agreed on signing the Executive Program for Research Cooperation and setting mechanisms, which could help launch Syrian-Saudi Research Program in addition to setting an executive program for a joint cultural agreement.

Minister Barakat visited King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and was briefed on the City and its role in the scientific researches in addition to the support it provides to a wide range of scientific projects.

The two ministers discussed possibilities of establishing scientific cooperation between KACST and Syrian universities.

Moreover, Dr. Ghiath Barakat discussed on Sunday with Emir of Riyadh Salman Bin Abdul Aziz developing and enhancing Syrian-Saudi scientific relations.

Minister Barakat reviewed the developments of the Syrian higher education sector and the scientific achievements in it according to the quality standards and bases.

He also pointed to the expansion in opening private, public universities and higher institutions as well as setting up new specializations in high studies to meet the needs of society and job market.

For his part, Emir of Riyadh expressed Saudi Arabia's willingness to enhance and build bridges of scientific communication with the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education based on the close fraternal relations that link the two brotherly countries.

Both sides stressed the importance of exchanging expertise, students and professors to positively reflect on the development of education process and building qualified capacities in the two countries.

Barakat was briefed on the developed scientific level in Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS).

He discussed means of cooperation between Syria's Higher Education Ministry and these two colleges. (SANA)
