Egypt & Italy launch fast ferry between Venice and Alexandria

Egypt Trade and Industry Minister, Eng. Rasheed Mohamed Rasheed and Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister, Amin Abaza launched the first ferry set a sail from the Italian port of Venice to the port of Alexandria of Egypt.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by large number of Italian officials, including Agriculture Minister and the Mayor of Venice as well as a number of Egyptian and Italian businessmen.

Rasheed said the new shipping line would help reduce the transportation costs of exports and will cut on the time of transportation as well.

Rasheed expected exports to reach $200 billion in value during the coming four years.

He added this maritime line is the first rapid such line to link south Europe and the Middle East via Egypt.

This will contribute to the flowing in the tourists to Egypt. It takes the new ferry boat only 60 hours to go from Venice to Alexandria. It also carries 280 passengers.(SIS)
