Today the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) announced it is part of the winning partnership bid to become the lead body for standards in the development of leaders and managers.

A major new pan-sector authority will act as a single source of support for six key sector areas in the UK replacing the Management Standards Centre’s responsibility. The Council for Administration (CfA) will act as the lead body with ILM as a key delivery partner. The other partners are the National Centre for Languages (CILT), the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Customer First, Direct Selling Association (DSA), the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM), the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), the Institute of Professional Administration (IPA), Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SfEDI), the Performance Group Ltd (TPGL) and the Trade Unions Congress (TUC).

ILM’s role in the partnership is to provide expert advice and knowledge on the management, leadership and enterprise area of work.

Penny de Valk, ILM Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to be working with the CfA and the other organisations. The significance of this announcement should not be underestimated, it means the supply and development of leaders and managers will be fully supported across all industrial sectors, through the formation of a single, major pan-sectoral body authority.

“Until now, responsibility for standards and encouraging the development of the owners of small businesses, and for leaders and managers across all sectors was diluted amongst a number of smaller bodies, and their needs could easily be overlooked. Now, through this important new venture, we can ensure that organisations across all sectors are better able to recruit and develop the leaders and managers they need to help rebuild the UK’s economy”.

Unlike the Sector Skills Councils, (which oversee occupations found in specific industries), leadership, management, administration and the other occupations the new authority is responsible for, occur across all sectors. People in these occupations have common development needs and should work to the same general standards, irrespective of the industry they work in.

De Valk added: “The CfA has worked hard to create this partnership of leading organisations in their fields and ILM is looking forward to working with them. In these challenging economic conditions ILM is committed to delivering top quality standards and qualifications to ensure leaders and managers are equipped to create high performing workplaces across all industries and sectors”.

In the Middle East, ILM supports the learning and development of companies like Etihad Airways, Emirates, Dubal, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Police, BAPCO, Ultra Dascam and several others.
