Oman and EU enhancing trade & economic partnership

Khalil bin Abdullah al Khunji, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) met today with Luigi Narpani, European Union (EU) non-resident ambassador to the Sultanate who is currently visiting the Sultanate.

The meeting discussed topics related to trade and economic matter, means of enhancing economic partnership between the Sultanate and EU to serve joint interests and enhance march of progress march being witnessed by the Sultanate in all fields.

The two sides also talked about the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the AGCC countries and the EU countries, which reached its final stages. Narpani pointed out that what was has beed achieved with regard to the agreement has reached about 92% to be actually applied besides talking about the dimensions and gains of the agreement in supporting trade, investment activities, opening markets for joint exports, roles to be played by European investments in the region in the development of infrastructure if local economies and integrating them with international economies to enhance the economic force, which will be gained by the countries of the region in partnership with big markets and international companies.

Meanwhile, OCCI proposed cooperation in a number of new fields with the EU, which included benefiting from European expertise in the standards and metrology, in addition to, cooperation in organizing courses and workshops on topics that concern joint economic relations between businessmen and women in the Sultanate and their EU counterparts and electronically linking OCCI with the EU Commission to facilitate exchanging information and joint business.
