Energy Partnership - Egypt Holds African Electricity Forum

Egypt (Cairo) - The third conference of the African electricity ministers' forum will start on Monday 31/5/2010 in Cairo under the sponsorship of Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and the chairmanship of Electricity and Energy Minister Hassan Younis.

Some 112 participants will take part in the event, including 22 African electricity and energy ministers, of whom are six from the Nile Basin countries as well as 13 heads of African groupings and organizations and several international financing institutions.

In statements on Saturday 29/5/2010, Younis said the conference will discuss means of procuring energy resources in Africa to achieve sustainable development in the continent.

Obtaining the energy needed for development without impacting environment and coordinating between African nations and international financing institutions will also be tackled at the conference, he added.

The event will work on setting up an international African partnership in the energy domain, he said.

The minister made the remarks during participation in celebrations held by the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority marking the energy day on Saturday 29/5/2010.(SIS)
