Oman (Muscat) - Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture has approved the procedural tools for establishing the special records management system at the Ministry of Heritage and Culture. The system was prepared by the Ministry in collaboration with the National Records and Archive Authority.

Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed al Dowayani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority singed the procedural tools for the system.

The classification depends on establishing a method for quick and accurate identification of files and their components.

The classification is used in a number of fields and will apply also to the documents and files of the governmental units.

The system secures the organized selection of the documents that are fit for the national memory, scientific research and history. To this effect, the Ministry of Heritage and Culture has established documents department to supervise and coordinate the application of the system in all of the Ministry's divisions.

When this takes effect, the Document Department at the Ministry, in coordination with specialists at the Authority, will train respective personnel on how to apply the different tools of the document management system.

The Ministry of Heritage and Culture is the fourth Ministry that completed preparing these tables, in implementation of the National Documents and Archives Law issued by the Royal Decree 60/2007.

These procedural tools are considered the foundation for establishing a modern system for records, their registration and their coding, as per the prepared classification method.

The system will improve administrative processes and preserve the rights and interests of society. (ONA)
