Kuwaiti Minister of Health Hilal Al-Sayer signed an agreement with the British Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children for developing health services at the National Bank of Kuwait's (NBK) hospital for children.

Under the three-year deal, the British clinic will provide medical services to the Kuwaiti hospital in the domain of children's blood diseases and cancer and neurological surgery, and train a Kuwaiti medical team in cancer treatment, the minister told a news conference on the occasion of the signing of the agreement.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health is keen on providing high-level medical care to children suffering from cancer, and on developing specialized, training and learning health services, as well as cutting the costs of foreign medical treatment, he added.

The British hospital will seek to review, and give advice on, children's blood and cancer diseases, in order to find a way for joint care for providing high-level medical services similar to those offered in the UK, and overhauling work policies and treatment protocols with a view to improving medical care by means of using the help of a high-level British medical team on a monthly basis, he said.

For his part, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Dr. Ibrahim Al-Abdulhadi said the ministry was seeking to develop medical services at all health facilities nationwide through a qualitative and quantitative strategic plan.

In this context, he hailed NBK for establishing this hospital out of its belief that health is a shared responsibility.

During his recent visit to Britain, the Kuwaiti minister of health inked a memo of understanding with the non-profitable British Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children with the goal of improving health care services to young cancer sufferers. (KUNA)
