Syria Discusses Cooperation with US Information Technology Companies

Syria (Damascus) – Syrian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdullah al-Dardari discussed with a delegation representing US info-tech companies means of developing cooperation.

Al-Dardari breifed the delegation on the status of info-tech sector in Syria, the laws and the systems regulating it, and the government's plans to develop it.

He underlined that the considerable developments in Syria economy depends on the use of info-tech and computers, referring to the government's efforts to integrate informatics in school curricula.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the government's programs aim to develop the capabilities of Syrian establishments and companies and their workers in the fields of info-tech, adding that Syria is exerting efforts to spread computer culture on all levels through providing people with means for learning and possessing info-tech skills, in addition to providing computers and internet services at reasonable prices.

He urged US companies to invest in Syria and benefit from the opportunities available in all fields.

The delegation members, who include representatives of Cisco Systems, Microsoft, Dell, VeriSign and Symantec, expressed desire to enhance cooperation and benefit from the atmosphere of economic and investment openness in Syria. (SANA)
