Syria (Damascus) - Chairman of the German-Arab Friendship Society Dr. Otto Wiesheu said that Syria has witnessed great developments in various domains over the last few years, adding that the country has a lot of capabilities that could boost up the rapidly developing relations between Syria and Germany.

In a press conference held Thursday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Damascus, Wiesheu said that the Syrian-German relations are moving on the right track, indicating that bilateral cooperation has further grown through carrying out joint projects in the domains of alternative and renewable energy in addition to investment projects benefiting from the inviting investment atmosphere in Syria.

He added that establishing Syrian-German Businessmen Council aims at activating bilateral cooperation in several domains.

He underlined that his meeting with President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday was a valuable opportunity which gave a new impetus to further enhancing bilateral cooperation, stressing that Syria is a key country on the regional map and the policy of settlement building and the separation wall is one of Israel's wrong practices.

Wiesheu pointed out that the German-Arab Friendship Society aims at boosting up Syrian-German relations, particularly in the economic, cultural, scientific and academic fields and overcoming all the obstacles facing them.

He reviewed some activities of the Society such as holding 150 cultural festivities in Germany and the Arab countries in addition to organizing an important cultural and political festivity after the latest Israeli hostile attack against Gaza Strip, pointing out that the Society will establish a German educational school in Syria and a school for training and qualification in other Arab country.

Chairman of the Syrian side at the Syrian-German Businessmen Council Omar Karkour said that Wiesheu's visit to Syria comes in the framework of enhancing cooperation and friendship between the two countries, indicating that there are more than 20 Arab schools in Germany.

Karkour added that the Council would establish training and qualification centers in some industrial cities in Syria in cooperation with chambers of industry and a number of German institutions and bodies.

The German-Arab Friendship Society was established in Berlin in 2007 with the aim of promoting cooperation between Germany and the Arab countries on the basis of friendship, understanding and confidence.

The Society gives top priority to the political, cultural and scientific exchange and the rapidly developing economic relations with the Arab countries. It provides information and consultations to its members on issues related to German-Arab relations. (SANA)
