Egypt Calls for More American Investments in Technology Sector PDF Print E-mail

Egypt Minister of Communications & Information Technology Tarek Kamel has attended in Washington the signing of four contracts between Egypt's Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and American technology companies.

ITIDA signed the contracts with Sutherland Global Services, Stream Global and Invesys. The cooperation contracts came as part of Kamel's visit to the US.

The deals Egypt's Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) signed with Invensys PLC, Stream Global Services and Sutherland Global Services will help create thousands of job opportunities for Egyptians in IT outsourcing.

Sutherland, as per the new deal, will launch the company's first foreign office in Alexandria, providing more than 1,000 jobs for Egyptian IT specialists at the initial stage. It will support global customers with a full range of integrated back-office and client facing front-office services.

Sutherland has 29,000 professional employees in eight countries around the world.

Meantime, the contract with Stream Global Services, is to widen the scope of the company's operation in Egypt. The company will increase the number of Egyptian employees from 800 to 3,400.

Stream has 35 centres in 19 countries around the world, employing 17,000 experts.

Invensys, providing outsourcing services, will also widen its operations in Cairo centre by raising its highly qualified staff from 300 to 50O. It will increase its exports of IT services to its clients from Egypt. It provides engineering and research services to clients in France, Britain, Italy, North America and Singapore.

Kamel arrived in the US on Monday 21/6/2010 on a few days' visit to partake in the US-Egyptian businessmen forum, organized by the US Chamber of Commerce. He also holds talks with US officials and representatives from companies on means of promoting cooperation between the two sides in communications and information technology.(SIS)
