About Asilah
Asilah is a fortified town on the northwest tip of the Atlantic coast of Morocco, about fifty km from Tangier. Its ramparts remain fully intact. It is now a popular seaside resort and home to the renowned thirty-two year-old international arts festival. Dating back to 1500 B.C., the Phoenicians used Asilah as a trade base.

About The Festival
The Asilah Arts Festival in Morocco was founded in 1978 by the former foreign minister, the then city mayor Mohammed Ben Eissa and the artist Mohammed Malihi. The Festival was started as part of a ceaseless effort to support the town's restoration and regeneration.

Today, the Festival is one of the most important art festivals in Morocco. Over the past three decades, this event has helped to promote dialogue, cultural exchange and solidarity. As well as this the Festival is widely known as a celebration of the values of peace and tolerance.

Every July, very important international personalities in politics, diplomacy, culture and arts flock to the Festival. Amongst them there are writers, painters, musicians and dancers, who come to meet, share ideas and co-operate with each other.

Each year, a country is designated to exhibit its culture through a core program. The chosen country will celebrate its individual culture through exhibitions, performances and conferences. This year, the UAE is the Festival's guest of honour.
