Egypt: Arab League organizes Arab Media Forum in Alexandria

Egypt (Alexandria) - Arab Media Forum (AMF) Secretary General Madhi Abdullah stressed the significance of a forum of Arab media leaders due in Alexandria on Thursday (July 5).

Scores of key Arab media figures, including board chairmen and chief editors of newspapers and satellite channels are to be partaking in the two-day media gathering, co-organized by the AMF and Bibliotheca Alexandrina, he said on Sunday.

During their meeting, Arab media leaders will mainly discuss issues and problems facing the Arab media movement, and will seek to find professional and responsible solutions, he said.

The forum comes at a time when all Arab media cadres are aware of a pressing need for supporting those who are in charge of Arab media blueprints, given swift changes worldwide, he added.

The forum is seeking to open fresh vistas for dialogue among Arab media leaders out of its deep conviction that dialogue is the only influential and favorable means to tackle Arab media issues, Al-Khamis said.

Actually, conscious and civilized dialogue among all interested parties would undoubtedly lead to tangible and fruitful findings, he argued.

The forum is chiefly interested in inter-Arab relations and how mass media can play an influential role in improving and beefing up such ties just out of its firm belief that this role is indispensable, he said.

"As Arab media figures, we firmly believe that the issues of Arab nation ought to be our top priority. We cannot isolate ourselves from the concerns of the nation in general," Al-Khamis said.

Arab media should live up to responsibility towards occasionally changing relations among Arab countries by means of discussing and highlighting Arab problems in a sincere and objective manner that could serve the Arab situation and deepen social awareness, he asked.

The AMF chief went on to say that the forum would also discuss media economies and how to invest in mass media, an issue which he said has recently imposed itself on media and economic arenas, and undoubtedly concerns Arab media cadres for several reasons.

"Investment in media now has a strong influence in all media organizations at both administrative and editing levels," he told KUNA.

But, this trend has posed a fresh problem on the media arena on how to hunt two birds with one stone by means of earning money and providing useful media material, he said.

The fact that this year's media forum is to be held in Alexandria bears cultural symbolism and spirit at the world level, Al-Khamis pointed out.

Founded in 2003, the forum, which is a media affiliate of the Arab League, is interested in Arab media projects and plans. (KUNA)
