Oman: Private sector employs 47,973 people

Oman_to_host_first_GCC_e-Government_conference
Oman (Muscat)  - The number of national manpower employed at the private sector's establishments during the first six months of 2010  stood at 47,973 .  They included 39,251 males and 8722 females.

Mudhafar bin Said al Wahaibi, Deputy Director-General of Employment at the Manpower Ministry said that the number of trainees employed as of the end of June 2010 stood at 767.  They included 669 males and 98 females.  He also pointed out that the number of candidates who presented to the Employment and Advisory Department and the employment departments at the ministry at all governorates and regions stood at 54,793 including 44,313 males and 10,480 females.

Al Wahaibi also told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the number of degree holders who were employed in the private sector stood at 1718, holders of diploma certificate 1845 employee and holders of general certificate 18,439, while the rest of employed citizens are below the general certificate.

As for the sectors , Al Wahaibi added that  18,084  Omanis were employed in the Contracting sector, 15,005  in trade and real state sector, 4914 in Industry sector, 3415  in Travel, Tourism and services sector, 2975 in Oil and Gas sector, 1824 in transport and storage sector.

Al Wahaibi pointed out that a number of vacancies are available with the Manpower Ministry in economic and services sectors. Young Omanis who want to join the private sector may forward their applications to the labour offices in different governorates and regions of the Sultanate.

The Deputy Director-General of Employment at the Manpower Ministry appreciated cooperation and response of Omani private sector's establishments with the ministry in terms of availing young Omanis with employment opportunities in various economic sectors.  (ONA)
