Today, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, the first British Cabinet Minister who is of the Muslim faith, met with the Kuwaiti Civil Society Advisor, Ms Nouria Al Saddani in London.

Ms Al Saddani is one of the first ever female activists in the Gulf having organised the first ever Kuwaiti Women’s Conference in 1971. She is a senior advisor to Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad who is currently the Deputy Premier.

Following an hour long meeting, Baroness Warsi said “Next year, Kuwait celebrates 50 years of independence, however the friendship between our two countries goes back more than 200 years. The United Kingdom and Kuwait enjoy strong ties and relations in many fields including politics, defence, trade, education and culture”.

“I was delighted to welcome Ms Al Saddani to the UK to discuss how both societies are contributing to the development, security and prosperity of our two countries.”

Baroness Warsi also welcomed the appointment of a Civil Society Advisor in Kuwait as a further way that the UK can help build stronger links with Kuwait.

Global Arab Network received statement saying, “The British Government believes that the innovation and enthusiasm of civil society is essential in tackling the social, economic and political challenges that the UK faces. We will take action to support and encourage social responsibility, volunteering and philanthropy and make it easier for people to come together to improve their communities and help one another. The vision for the Big Society will be one of the great legacies of this Government, and we are keen to share ideas with the Kuwaiti Government as they make efforts to strengthen their civil society”.

Baroness Warsi also commended the Kuwaiti Government ambitious 4 year development plan and was formally invited to visit Kuwait to meet Sheikh Al Fahad and other ministers.
