Egypt planning to increase exports to $ 35.11 billion

Egyptian Exports Development Fund (EDF) board held a meeting to discuss a new system for supporting exports.

The meeting was attended by Egypt Minister of Finance Youssef Boutros Ghali, Minister of Trade & Industry Rasheed Mohamed Rasheed, Social Fund for Development (SFD) Secretary Hani Seif El-Nasr and First Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC) Mohamed El-Masry.

Ghali praised the EDF’s success in attaining the objectives of the exports backing drive during the past period, particularly in the sector of agricultural crops and citrus.

"Our exports of orange hit about one million tons during the 2009/2010 fiscal while they did not exceed 35,000 tons in the fiscal year 2003/2004," said Ghali. He said that Egypt had access to new markets like China and Russia.

For his part, Minister Rasheed said that the new system falls within the framework of the Trade and Industry Ministry’s plan to achieve a national exports-increasing strategy to up them to $ 35.11 billion (200 billion Egyptian pounds) until the year 2013.(SIS)
