Oman: crude oil production rose by 8.8% in the first five months

Oman (Muscat) - The statistics released by the National Economy Ministry pointed out that the Sultanate's total crude oil production rose by 8.8% in the first five months of the current year 2010 to hit 129.8 million barrel, compared to 119.3 million barrel in the corresponding period in 2009.

The statistics also pointed out that the crude oil production rose by 7.9% and oil condensates by 15.3% which reached 113.7 million barrel and 16.1 million barrel respectively. The average daily production of oil increased during the period, by 8.8% to hit 859.400 bpd. The average oil price per barrel increased by 70.2%, from $44.84 in 2009 to $76.34 per barrel in 2010.

The Sultanate's oil exports recorded a remarkable increase during the first five months of 2010 (15.1%) to hit 112.6 million barrels compared to 97.8 million barrel during the same period of 2009. The period also witnessed an increase in the Sultanate's oil exports to Japan, Thailand, China and Singapore 55.5%, 20.7% 32.1%, 94.7% respectively. There has been a decline of oil exports to Korea and Taiwan by 52.1% & 21.8% respectively.

In terms of geographical distribution, the Sultanate's oil exports, China came first as it imported 41.6 million barrel during the first five months of 2010, 37% of the Sultanate's total oil exports during the period compared to 32.2% during the same period in 2009. Thailand came in the second place by 17.2 %, followed by Japan 16.4 %, about 15.3% and 14.6% of the Sultanate's total oil exports during the period.

The Sultanate's natural gas production rose by 6.1% during the first five months of the year 2010 to hit 470,644 million cubic feet compared to 443,423 during the same period in 2009. (ONA)
