Syria (Damascus) - The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is due to pay a two-day visit to Syria on Thursday, reports Syrian State News Agency.

King Abdullah Al Saud will hold discussions with President Bashar al-Assad on bilateral relations and the latest developments in regional and international arenas.

Last October, President al-Assad met King Abdullah in Damascus, held talks on enhancing cooperation relations between the two countries, boosting up Arab-Arab relations and the joint Arab work in addition to continuing consultation and coordination between the two countries at all levels.

Also, President al- Assad received three messages from the Saudi King in January and April 2010 and March 2009 on the latest developments in the region and bilateral relations bolstering.

Five agreements, memos of understanding and documents were signed in the areas of customs, trade and economy as well as an agreement to avoid double taxation during the meetings of the Syrian-Saudi Joint Ministerial Committee and the Joint Syrian-Saudi Business Forum last March in Damascus.

After the discussions, the monarch will visit Beirut where he will meet his ally Premier Saad al-Hariri, President Michel Suleiman and Lebanese political leaders, Saudi officials said.

The king hopes to convince Assad to accompany him to Beirut from Damascus, Lebanese officials say, although Syria has not confirmed that Assad will oblige.

The Saudi king's hours-long visit will be his first to Lebanon since 2002.

In Lebanon, the king will meet President Michel Sleiman and members of the national unity government that includes Hezbollah.

Saad al-Hariri, who initially blamed Syria for his father's death, has since tried to ease tensions with Damascus and has made several trips to meet Assad. Syria has denied any involvement in Hariri's killing.

Damascus had re-set relations with Lebanon after improving ties with Saudi Arabia. (GAN, SANA, AFP, Reuters)
