Rabat - Morocco is a hub of stability and development in a region which is not problem-free, says French State Secretary for European Affairs Pierre Lellouche.

"We are glad to take note of the Moroccan government's mobilization and modernity, and we believe that Morocco succeeded in combining its religious tradition, historical culture and the requisites for modernity and development,” Lellouche told radio channel "chaine inter" on the occasion of the upcoming Throne Day.

He voiced the will to see the French-Moroccan friendship ties grow stronger.

On relations between the north African country and the European Union (EU), he said France is satisfied with Morocco as being the first country to be granted an advanced status.

He said that this privileged partnership helps Morocco promote its legal and industrial standards without any compulsion by Europe.

Lellouche also hailed the status of Moroccan women which is an example for the Arab-Muslim world, underlining the country’s openness at the political level.

On the other hand, the socialist deputy and former French Minister of Justice and Employment Elisabeth Guigou said that major modernization projects initiated by Morocco in recent years are "on the right track",

She told "chaine inter" Radio that "Morocco is a hardworking country that is open to modernization. There is surely an economic growth and a political openness and the press enjoys far more freedom than in neighboring countries."

Guigou also lauded Morocco's ability in finding its own way to modernity and commended Moroccan women who "achieved their independence while respecting the specifics of Moroccan culture."

The MP added that Moroccan society "has significantly changed for the better”, although more work needs to be done in the fields of education and literacy, especially for girls living in rural areas. (MAP)
