Jordan reduces budget deficit by 70% , holds $ 4.831 billion reserves

Jordan (Amman) - Jordan's budget deficit has shrunk by 70 percent in the first six months of the current year, official data showed.

The figures by the Ministry of Finance revealed that the budget deficit slumped to JD175.1 million from JD530.1 million for the same period of 2009.

The report attributed the decline in the budget deficit to a significant drop in capital expenditure as it went down to JD327.5 million from JD617.6 million for the same period of last year.

It added that domestic revenues rose to JD2.26 billion compared with JD2.19 billion in the same period last year, while foreign assistance increased to JD157.9 million compared with JD95.9 million.

The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) on Wednesday announced that the volume of excess reserves is JD3.424 billion ($ 4.831 billion) including the overnight window deposits.

The volume of required reserves stood at JD1.133 billion, the CBJ added.

The bank said that the amount JD 13 million is the value of the 29th issuance of Water Authority Treasury Bonds will be matured on Thursday.
