Jordan (Amman) - An attractive investment environment is a top national interest for the Kingdom (Jordan) to draw up more efficient economic and fiscal policies that boost the productivity of the national economy, says Jordanian official.

Jordan Deputy Prime minister Rajai Muasher who deputized for the King, said in opening remarks, at the 6th Conference for Jordanian Investors and Businessmen, that the world economic downturn had left some positive impacts on the national economy represented by lower oil and food prices and made available lucrative investments opportunities.

However, Muasher said the slowdown in the real estate and stock markets and the decline in national exports were among the negative ramifications of the global economic turmoil.

"Boosting the productivity of the national economy is vital to uplift citizen''s living conditions and reduce poverty and unemployment", Muahser said.

The deputy premier stressed that the conference offered a unique opportunity to shed light on priority national projects and to enable decisions makers and officials to be tuned on challenges to the business environment in the Kingdom.

The Kingdom, he added, had sealed a number of agreements with some countries in a bid to open further market to Jordanian products.

Minister of Industry and Trade Amer Hadidi said a concerted national effort was needed to cope with the repercussions of the global economic meltdown and achieve broader rebound.

"There have been some positive indicators of the national economy''s ability to recover as they showed that exports were on an upward trend", Hadidi said.

It is worth mentioning that the 6th Conference for Jordanian Investors and Businessmen got underway with the participation of a number of business-people from inside and outside the country.
