The Royal Navy of Oman Ship "Shabab Oman" won the International Friendship Cup for the seventh time. This victory was announced in a ceremony, organized in Hartlepool in the United Kingdom (UK) in the presence of the city officials, large number of British citizens and guests of various nationalities.

This cup is the most prominent award sought by the 60 participating ships from different parts of the world. The award is given to the best ship in terms of strengthening friendly relations and understanding between the crews of the participating ship. "Shabab Oman" cut 9400 nautical miles since departure from Said bin Sultan Naval Base on April 14th. The ship has received 90,000 visitors. This event comes within the 11th international voyage for the ship to Europe this year.

"Shabab Oman"  participated in the ship march of the ships' crews taking part in the race as the crew members and trainees marched across Hartlepool hoisting the Omani flag, renewing their loyalty to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. They also chanted traditional songs accompanied by the Omani traditional music, which attracted the audience who gathered to follow the event.

The 54th Long Sailing Boat Race consisted of two rounds. The first round started from July 14th to July 25th. It was launched from Antwerp Port in the Kingdom of Belgium passing through Wester Shield River till Aalborg in Kingdom of Denmark, which is one of the most ship-busy areas, cutting 77 nautical miles.

The second round of the Long Sailing Boat Race in the North Sea as the race started from Kristiansand Port in Norway on August 1st, where "Shabab Oman" grabbed the first position in the Traditional Sailboat Competition, then it arrived at Hartlepool Port in UK on August 7th, after cutting 405 nautical miles, where "Shabab Oman" received the International Friendship Cup.

Having arrived at Hartlepool Port, "Shabab Oman" opened its door before the visitors and organized an exhibition for the traditional heritage and pictures that depict the Omani renaissance development. The ship hosted a reception for captains of the other participant ships and the Organizing Committee of the Long Sailing Boat Race, where the traditional music and folklore played with bag pipes by musicians from the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) and the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO).

The British newspapers and other means of media interacted with the award distribution ceremony.  "Shabab Oman" was on top of the headlines, highlighting the ship's cup victory including views and impressions of the ship visitors and those who attended the International Friendship Cup awarding ceremony.

After participation in the 54th Long Sailing Boat Race, "Shabab Oman" will participate tomorrow (Tuesday) in the North Sea Race, which will be concluded in the Dutch Capital, Amsterdam on August 19th, then the ship will head to the Federal Republic of Germany to take part in Sail Bremerhaven Festival, one of the biggest maritime festivals across Europe.

The participation of "Shabab Oman" in these maritime competitions aims at strengthening relations and spreading friendship and respect among the world's peoples. Since joining the fleet of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) in 1979, the ship has been playing the role of the Omani ambassador who represents Oman in various world's maritime events, highlighting the Omani progress, renaissance, history and civilization that go deeply in the history and telling the world the story of the Omanis who contributed to disseminate their culture across the world, as well as, the Omani maritime methods pursued by the Omanis who took part in this achievement.
