Greening Competition in Lebanon - 18000 Recyclable Items

In their continued efforts and commitment to raise environmental awareness, the British, Japanese and Danish diplomatic missions in Lebanon held an inter embassy 'Greening' competition to raise the largest number of recyclable items, reports NNA.

Lebanese colleagues and foreign diplomats gathered more than 18,000 items including plastic bottle tops, plastic bottles, glass bottles, aluminum cans and batteries.

British Deputy Head of Mission Piers Cazalet said that the effects of climate change on our lives are real amidst the heat wave Lebanon is going through and reaffirmed the British embassy's commitment to leading an environmental friendly approach. He then handed Ms. Joelle Bechara from the Lebanese NGO Arcenciel a financial donation from the British Embassy and from Solicar, and more than 30 Kgs of bottle tops for their recycling campaign '1 ton=1 wheelchair'.

At the end of the ceremony, Danish Ambassador, Jan Top Christensen, handed the winners with the most recyclable items collected, their prizes with courtesy of Rotana Gefinor and Le Royale Hotels. Earlier this year, on the 22nd of April the embassies concerned joined the world in celebrating Earth Day.
