Egypt to increase wheat production up to 75% over 3 years

Egypt setting up a strategy to increase domestic production of wheat between 70 and 75% over 3 years using new varieties, ranging from productivity between 22 to 27 ardebs acre.

Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Amin Abaza announced to receive 3.2 million tons of wheat from farmers at subsidized prices on the world price increase of about 100 pounds Ardebs, asserting that the State incurred about 6.1 billion pounds in support of the farmers.

He added that the new price will be announced in November, it is expected to be within 380 pounds of Ardebs.

He pointed out that we have a strategy to increase domestic production between 70 and 75% over 3 years using new varieties, ranging from productivity between 22 to 27 ardebs acre.

The Minister of Agriculture, said that the implementation of irrigation development in the area of 5 million acres of old land will have a positive effect on the expansion of wheat growing horizontally as it will be 10 billion cubic meters of irrigation water in 10 years.

Abaza also pointed to the experiences of vertical expansion in Glover productivity at the Agricultural Research Center to improve it at the rate of 40%, which opens the door to other areas of wheat cultivation.
