Jordan (Amman)  - Jordan King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah are visiting the United Kingdom to attend the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, which celebrates its diamond anniversary, reports Petra.

King Abdullah will be the guest of honour of the ceremony as a number of Jordanian army bands, and Circassian Royal Guards as well as a group of the Public Security Cavalry will be taking part in the event.

Jordanian military bands participated in the event for the first time in 1963.

The Tattoo, which runs for three weeks on Edinburgh Castles esplanade, is celebrating its diamond anniversary, having first been staged in 1950.

Over 1000 performers from the Army, this year’s lead service, along with a wealth of talent from around the world join forces to stage a spectacular 60th Anniversary programme of music, song, dance and drama at this year’s Diamond Jubilee Tattoo on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle from August 6-28.

Among the many attractions lined-up for this year’s Tattoo is a thrilling display of daredevil motorcycling, award-winning pipe music, the best of British Military Bands, breathtaking gymnastics, enthralling never-before-seen overseas artistes and an all-action antipodean exhibition of top-flight entertainment.

“2010 will see one of the most colourful productions we’ve staged in the northern hemisphere”, said Tattoo Chief Executive & Producer, Major General Euan Loudon, preparing for his fourth Tattoo at the production helm.

“And”, he added, “this special show features a celebration of 60 years of the Tattoo, recognising the incredible encouragement the Tattoo has received from some 12 million people who have now walked across the Castle Esplanade to witness the annual gathering.”
