Moroccan elected president of Regional Assembly of the International Union of Railways

Morocco (Rabat) - Mohamed Rabie Khlie Director General of the National Office for Railways (ONCF), was elected president of the Regional Assembly of the International Union of Railways (UIC)- Africa.

Khlie's election, which came during the 7th UIC Regional Assembly in Tripoli, Libya, is "an international recognition of the development of the Moroccan railway network and its full commitment to international cooperation activities", The ONCF said on Wednesday in a statement.

Khlie will be tasked with ensuring the coordination of strategies between African networks within the framework of a holistic vision, added the ONCF, which became in 2010 a permanent representative of the Maghreban railways at the UIC's executive committee.

Set up in 1992, the UIC aims notably to map out strategies to promote railway traffic at a world level and contribute to meet sustainable development challenges.
