Egypt: Irrigation strategy for cooperation among Nile Basin countries

Egyptian Irrigation Minister Mohamed Nasreddin Allam unveiled on Wednesday a new strategy for cooperation among Nile Basin countries.

During a public rally in Damietta, Minister Allam said the new strategy has already been drafted in preparation for discussing it during the extraordinary meeting of the Nile Basin Ministers to be held in Nairobi.

Meanwhile, the Minister decided to increase amounts of wastewater behind the High Dam by 35 million cubic meters to meet the needs of agriculture and drinking water and curb power outage.

Allam said that President Hosni Mubarak has entrusted the ministries concerned to cooperate with Nile Basin countries and resort to quiet dialogue along with establishing projects that serve the joint interests between Egypt and the riparian states.
