International Bank for Reconstruction and Development loans Morocco's water facility $ 211 million

Morocco (Rabat) - Morocco's drinking water facility (ONEP) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) signed, on Thursday in Rabat, two loan agreements of up to 1.83 billion dirhams (over $211mln).

The deals are meant to finance a regional drinking water supply system and the Oum Er Rbia River's purification project.

The agreements were signed by IBRD's Acting Country Director for Maghreb Countries Françoise Clottes, and head of ONEP Ali Fassi Fihri, a statement by the state-owned facility said.

The first project is made up of three regional systems for drinking water production and supply that would benefit 750 K people in three regions: Nador-Driouch, Safi- Youssoufia and sidi Bennour-Errachidia.

As for the second project which will benefit 243 K inhabitants, it seeks to broaden access to water purification services and slash wastewater pollution in Oum Er Rbia basin.
