Oman Issues Telecommunications Services Statistics 2010

Oman (Muscat) - Subscribers of the fixed phone service offered by Omantel in the Sultanate stood at 283,155 at the end of June 2010, against 300,139 in 2009, constituting a 5.7% decline.

Statistics issued by the National Economy Ministry have shown that subscribers of billed fixed phone service in the Sultanate stood at 202,733 at the end of June 2010, against 209,246 subscribers in 2009. Subscribers of pre-paid fixed phone service (Sahl) stood at 36,071 against 47,888 in 2009. The number of public phones all over the Sultanate stood at 6,801 compared to 6,805 during 2009.

Subscribers of the integrated digital network services stood at 35,236 at the end of June 2010 against 32,822 in 2009.  Subscribers of the wireless lines services stood at 2,314 against 3,378 in 2009.

The statistics also pointed out that the number of fixed telephone lines subscribers in the Muscat Governorate stood at 129,649 by end of June 2010, followed by the Al Batinah Region 35,635, the Al Dakhiliyah Region 20,595, the Dhofar Governorate 19,129, the Al Sharqiyah Region 16,910, the Al Dhahirah Region 8,263, Al Buriami Governorate 5,240, the Mussandam Governorate 3,054 and the Al Wusta Region 329.

Subscribers of billed and pre-paid GSM service stood at 4.391,581, compared to 3,970,563 by the end of 2009, constituting a 10.6% rise.

Subscribers of billed GSM service stood at 398,130 by the end of June 2010, against 358,744 during 2009, constituting a 11% rise.

Subscribers of pre-paid GSM service rose by 10.6% to 3,993,451 against 3,611,819 during 2009.

Subscribers of internet service stood at 69,250 at the end of June 2010 compared to 78,135 subscribers during 2009, constituting an 11.4% decline.

The number of internet phone service subscribers stood at 68,817as at the end of June 2010 compared to 77,722 during 2009, constituting a 11.5% decline.  The number of subscribers to post paid internet phone service amounted to 15,254 and the pre-paid card service stood at 9,340.  The number of "Abhar" service subscribers stood at 454 subscribers whereas the number of Power Net service subscribers amounted to 43,678.

The number of leased internet lines subscribers stood at 433 as at the end of June 2010, compared to 413 in 2009, a growth by 4.8%.
