Executive steps have been taken for a project to develop the Greater Cairo Ring Road, according to the Egyptian Transport Minister.
The project will include building four lanes of service roads on both sides of the Ring Road, Alaa Fahmi said in press statements on Saturday 21/8/2010.
The ultimate target is to ease traffic congestion and ensure road safety, he said.
The project will cover almost 100 kilometres of the road, he added.
"Initially, we will start by an area of 30 kilometers stretching from the Autostrad Road up to Al-Salam Tunnel and the Suez highway. Development operations within this phase are estimated to cost EGP 600 million,” he added. (SIS)
