Saudi (Jeddah) - Saudi Arabia plans to expand the tawaf (circumambulation) area around the holy Kaaba to make it less crowded, Saudi Press Agency reported Monday.

According to the Dean of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj Research Dr Thamer Al Harbi, the institute now has several studies that can demonstrate its vision to increase the capacity of tawaf area.

Al Harbi said that several recommendations has already been implemented by the concerned authority, such as banning of small cars - carrying less than 25 people - from entering the holy sites during Hajj seasons, the shuttle trips, Jamarat Bridge, and proper management of sacrificial meat.

The food security during Hajj, the role of technology in serving the guests of Allah as well as health care issues are currently being discussed by the institute, in order to reach the best solutions and ideas that would help the Hajj shrines more easier for pilgrims.

The Hajj is the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is currently the largest annual pilgrimage in the world, and is the fifth pillar of Islam, a religious duty that must be carried out a least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so.

The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to God (Allah in the Arabic language).
