European and Scandinavian Travel Representatives Exploring Tourism Potential in Oman
Oman (Muscat) - The Ministry of Tourism, represented by the Directorate General of Tourism Promotion hosts the largest delegation of travel and tourism office representatives from Germany, Scandinavian countries and German-spoken countries to visit Oman from August 31st to September 8th.  This is aimed to familiarize them with the civilization, tourism and environmental potentials and landmarks in the Sultanate.

The delegation, which is composed of 120 representatives of the German and Scandinavian travel and tourism offices, will be divided into two groups.  The groups will pay two separate visits to the Governorates of Dhofar and Mussandam to familiarize with the civilizational, tourism and environmental potentials and landmarks in the two governorates.  A number of meetings, property inspections and familiarization tours will associate the visit, in addition to similar tours to the Governorate of Muscat and its adjoining regions, namely the Al Dakhiliyah and the Al Batinah Regions.

Within the visit's programme, a specialized workshop will be organized under the auspices of Mohammed bin Hamoud al Toobi, Tourism Ministry's Undersecretary.  The workshop will be organized on Saturday at Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa.  It will bring together representatives of the guest delegation with their counterparts, representatives of travel and tourism offices and hotels in the Sultanate.  The two-day workshop will include bilateral meetings, then a mini exhibition will be opened.

Al Toobi said "The initiative of organizing the visit comes to enhancing promotional efforts and tourism movement coming to the Sultanate particularly the German and Scandinavian market, in addition to demonstrating the growing importance of the European market since Oman Air's decision to inaugurate non-stop Airbus services from Munich, Frankfurt and France last October 2009.  In particular, non-stop services to Muscat now allow us to position Oman as both a quality destination and gateway to the GCC Region more generally".

Al Toobi pointed out that the core goal through which we seek to organize such visits represents in availing a specialized person in the Omani market in each travel tourism office in Germany, Scandinavian countries, Austria and Switzerland to view the civilizational and tourism potentials and the comprehensive developmental renaissance being enjoyed by the Sultanate and then to transfer that real picture about the Sultanate, so that to be a specialist in the Omani tourism market.

It is worth mentioning that the delegation is the largest of its kind, hosted by the Tourism Ministry at the level of representatives of travel and tourism offices in Germany and Scandinavian countries that include Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, in addition to some German-spoken countries, such as, Austria and Switzerland.
