Qatar to Celebrates Achieving 77 Million Tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas
Qatar (Doha) - As Qatar's production capacity of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) will soon reach 77 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman of Qatar Petroleum (QP) Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah has announced the formation of a task team composed of a group of companies and departments to take on the task of highlighting this historic event as an achievement of the State of Qatar.

With the sixth and seventh production lines of Qatargas expected to begin production in the very near future, Qatar will prove that its LNG production capacity reaches 77 mtpa, Al Attiyah said, adding that this means achieving the vision of the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

This achievement also represents a landmark event for Qatar, where it will ensure its reputation of being the center of energy in the world and the largest producer of LNG in the world, he added. Thanks to the wise vision and the firm commitment by the Emir and through the continued support of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar has become today at the forefront of the LNG industry at the global level, Al Attiyah stressed.

This unprecedented achievement would not have been possible without the joint efforts of a large number of experts and technicians, officials and staff who participated in every stage of the implementation of our ambitious projects in the field of liquefied natural gas industry, he added.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister issued a decision appointing Abdul Aziz bin Ahmed Al Malki, the director of his office, as president of the supreme committee that will oversee the plans for celebrating Qatar's LNG production reaching 77 mtpa. The celebration to be held on Monday, December 13, 2010 in Ras Laffan Industrial City in the presence of several delegations and media figures from around the world.

This great achievement will certainly contribute to shaping the future of Qatar and strengthening the foundations of its infrastructure and its global leadership as well as establishing the permanent bases for education, health and environmental issues. (QNA)
