Syria (Damascus) – Al-Miskeih Souk has a special feature during the holy month of Ramadan represented through the beauty of the pillars, which form the end of al-Hamidieh Street.

Despite its small size, al-Miskieh Souk is a daily attraction point and it is open to al-Miskieh yard where tourists and shoppers gather.

The Souk gets more vivid with the approach of Eid al-Fitr. Although the number of shops doesn't exceed twelve; it provides visitors with books, perfumes and rosaries they look for, particularly in the holy month.

Al-Miskieh Street is much more visited in Ramadan for what it provides including books, Holy Quran copies, religious records, rosaries, incense, and prayer mat, souvenirs and ornaments.

Bassam Mahrous, a shop owner, said that he increases the number and the diversity of the books displayed in Ramadan because people prefer to read spiritual books during the month.

The smell of the books is mixed with perfumes because shop owners tend to keep perfume in their shops as a symbol of what this market used to sell in the past where different kinds of fragrances, including musk, were on sale.

In al-Miskieh Souk, named after musk, damascene fragrances including Jasmine, Kaaba odor, lemon, Amber, Violet and musk are sold.

Al-Miskieh Souk is the perfect place for getting different kinds of rosaries made of stone, crystal, turquoise, ceramics and shell.

The Souk attracts a lot of people, being an obligatory way for passengers going to Souk al-Hamedieh, Umayyad Mosque and al-Bzourieh Souk where they stop to enjoy the place with all its archaeological features and wonderful atmosphere.
