Omani Indian Business Council discusses joint economic opportunities

Oman (Muscat) - The 7th session of the Omani-Indian Business Council was held at OCCI HQs' today in the presence of Khalil bin Abdullah al Khunji, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Rajan Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and number of  members in the Omani-Indian Business Council.

The meeting which was held on the sidelines of the Omani-Indian Joint Committee discussed several fields that serve the joint commercial interests and economic opportunities, as well as, ways of facing the challenges that hinder the joint agreements.

Al Khunji stressed the deep Omani-Indian relations across the history indicating that India has got prominent commercial potentials and investment companies making it one of the countries that achieves big economic growth.

He added that the Omani side has to benefit from the Indian experiences in the various economic domains, in addition to, signing joint commercial agreements.

E K Paru, head of the Indian delegation, Head of the Indian side in the Council, said that India managed to achieve high growth rates in several fields particularly IT, education, health, banking and human resources, indicating that the Sultanate, meanwhile managed to realize noticeable economic activity lately which encourages companies to work with their Omani counterparts to benefit from the commercial resources and potentials made available by the Sultanate of Oman.

On the other hand, Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers received today Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of India and Head of the Indian side in the Omani-Indian Joint Committee.

The guest conveyed greetings of the Indian leadership to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said along with their best wishes to His Majesty, the Government and the Omani people.

After welcoming the guest and his accompanying delegation, Sayyid Fahd commended the level of growing relations and fields of the existing cooperation between the two friendly countries.

Conversation during the meeting dealt with means of activating deliberations of the Joint Committee between the two sides, particularly in economic, scientific fields and supporting joint investments. It also reviewed a number of current issues at the regional and international arenas.

The guest expressed his gratitude and that of his accompanying delegation for the visit.  He commended what the Sultanate has achieved at the level of economic and human development, thanks to its wise leadership.  The guest also praised the talks he conducted with the Commerce and Industry Minister and state senior officials.  He also expressed his satisfaction with the positive steps reached by the Joint Committee at the level of the Omani-Indian relations.

The meeting was attended by Maqbool bin Ali bin Sultan, Commerce and Industry Minister and Head of the Omani side in the Omani-Indian Joint Committee and Anil Wadhwa, Indian ambassador to the Sultanate.
