Oman: Education Ministry, Intel to train 45,000 teachers
Oman (Muscat) - The Ministry of Education and Intel International today signed an MoU on Intel Techno Education Program. The MoU was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Education by Saud bin Salim al Balushi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Educational Planning and HRD and on behalf of Intel by Samir al Shamaa, Regional Manager for Intel Middle East.

The signing ceremony was attended by Yahya bin Saud al Sulaimi, Minister of Education, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan al Toobi, Advisor to the Ministry of Education and Khalid bin Sulaiman al Siyabi, Director General of the Directorate General of Information Technology.

After signing the ceremony, the Minister of Education, the guests and Intel representatives were briefed on the detailed aspects of the program strategy.

Yahya bin Saud al Sulaimi, Minister of Education said that Intel Co. has good experience in education programs that aim at enhancing the student's learning through integration of information and modern communication devises.

Intel Education Program is a program that aims at training and helping the experienced teachers to use modern technologies in the classrooms and helping the teachers acquire advanced life skills. It also aims at developing the higher thinking skills and problem solution, in addition to, encouraging team work among students and improving learning.

He pointed out that as per this MoU, Intel will work closely with the Ministry to train 45,000 teachers during the next five years. The teachers will receive intensified courses and sources on the effective use of technology in classrooms. They will learn also how to introduce the technological tools and sources in the study plans.

On his part, Saud bin Salim al Balushi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Educational Planning and Human Resources Development said that the Ministry always seeks to develop its education system and improve its education output. Intel Education program includes the use of internet web page design and student project as means for enhancing the education process.

Khalid bin Sulaiman al Siyabi, DG of the Directorate General of Technology said that the program will help the teachers to introduce the technology at their classrooms and improves the students' learning and skills required to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

‘As per the terms of the MoU, Intel and the Ministry of Education will improve the students' scientific research skills in a bid to promote scientific innovation and discovery by providing the Omani education system with the most advanced tools and mechanisms that facilitate development towards the knowledge based economy in the 21st century.

Yahya al Harthy, Director General of Human Resources Development said that the course has been designed to help teachers who have little experience in computes to acquire the basic technology skills and develop the learning and education aspects to ensure effective utilization of technology in classrooms. This aims at helping teachers acquire advanced life skills and develop higher thinking skills.

It is worth mentioning that the project aims at disseminating modern systems in education and raising awareness of the effective use of technology inside the classrooms in a bid to develop the students and teachers' skills and identify the methods through which students and teachers and utilize technology to improve the learning standard
