Global Arab Network: Eid Mubarak - Many Arab and Muslim countries celebrate Eid on Friday
Many Arab and Muslim countries have announced that they would celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Fitr on Friday.

In Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, UAE, Yemen, Sudan, Palestine, Tunisia, Morocco  and Lebanon, the supreme court ruled that Thursday would be the final day of fasting, before the Eid celebration opens the new month of Shawwal, official sources informed Global Arab Network.

While Libya has announced Eid on Thursday.

Until Wednesday's ruling, based on observing the progress of the new moon, it was not clear whether Eid would take place on Thursday or Friday. The holiday depends on the sighting of the moon, and can therefore be observed on different days around the world.

Al fitr Eid is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr  means "to purify"; and so the holiday symbolizes the purification after completing the fasting month which is after the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan, on the first day of Shawwal.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and sexual relations from dawn until sunset.

Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about patience, humility, and spirituality. It is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake of God (Arabic: الله‎, trans: Allah) and to offer more prayer than usual.
