Bahrain (Manama) - Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has become a major contributor to Bahrains economy by pumping some $2.5 billion since the launch of its commercial operations, according to a company statement.

GPIC has also become one of the first petrochemical companies in the Middle East to have an operational carbon dioxide recovery (CDR) project aimed at cutting down emissions of green house gases by improving the overall efficiency of natural resources and enhancing production of methanol and urea in its complex.

‘In recognition of the high reputation won by GPIC in the areas of health, safety and the environment and the international recognition it enjoyed, the company was selected to become the key-note speaker of the First International Conference of Latin American States for Safety, Health and Environment,’ GPIC said in a statement.
The event was held in the Argentinean city of Salta.

At the conference, GPIC was represented by Fadhel Mallalah Al-Ansari, GPIC’s technical services manager, as a key-note speaker who highlighted the basic principles of sustainable development.

‘The basic principles of sustainable development include community service, protection of the environment and profitability which are the same three principles adopted by GPIC for management of its operations enabling to become a globally recognized entity in the petrochemical sector,’ Fahel told the audience.

Fadhel shed light on the sustainable development and environmental protection model, which according to him helped the company to become a global player in the industry.

He also reviewed the company’s experience in the vital areas of the petrochemical industry and how the company is taking the business model forward, according to a report published today by Arab News.
