UAE (Dubai) - Alistair Burt, UK Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, will visit the UAE from 15 to 16 September. During his visit he will lead the UK delegation for the second meeting of the UK/UAE Taskforce with UAE Minister of State, Dr Anwar Gargash. The Taskforce aims to realise the two governments’ commitment to work together and build closer links across a range of sectors including defence, business, culture and education.

Minister Burt will also be the first Minister since the UK election to visit Dubai. He will meet Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State, to discuss strengthening the UK/UAE bilateral relationship and undertake a number of other engagements aimed at strengthening trade and investment between the two countries. These include visiting Dubai Ports World and meeting with key members of the UAE business community. The Minister will also take part in a round table discussion at the British Council on education and youth programmes.

Global Arab Network received Minister Burt statement ahead of the visit, saying:

“I am delighted to be visiting the United Arab Emirates and I particularly welcome the opportunity to visit both Abu Dhabi and Dubai and see Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Gargash, and Minister Reem Al Hashimy. The UK is committed to investing more time and effort in our relationships with the UAE. I hope that during my visit I will strengthen close personal relationships with my counterparts to drive forward the work of the UK-UAE Task Force and strengthen the ties which link, and which already benefit, our two great nations".

It is worth mentioning that UAE is one of the priorities for the Gulf Initiative through which the British Government is committed to elevating its relations with all its partners across the Gulf.
