Egypt (Cairo) - A Kuwaiti educational official underlined here Tuesday the necessity of revamping the higher education system in the Arab world as "pressing".

Speaking to KUNA on the sidelines of a meeting of Arab educational experts, Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Education Khalid Al-Saad said high-quality higher education is the sole strategic solution to stave off looming economic predicaments.

He called for overhauling and developing the Arab educational system by means of considering the conditions of teaching staff and boosting their skills and information as well as coping with modern trends in all knowledge rights.

He also urged a careful consideration of labor market needs in order to create a harmony between educational input and output.

He said he presented during the meeting of Arab educational experts a working paper on high education development in the State of Kuwait.

The paper sheds light on efforts exerted by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Education to provide modern education to all pre-university education stages, based on commitment to quality criteria, he said.

The Kuwaiti ministry set out an educational development strategy for 2005-2025, aiming to meet the expectations of transforming into a knowledge-based society and having the ability to compete over global economy, he added.

The strategy provides the basis for preparing and qualifying children within a systematic unit that could ensure the fulfillment of state goals, the Kuwaiti official pointed out.

In this context, Al-Saad hailed the great role of the Kuwait University in developing an integrated system based on the use of high technology in the educational process through creating a congenial technological infrastructure and expanding e-learning and distance learning.

However, he believed that high-quality education requires progress in other fields, including economic, administrative, social and political domains.

The four-day regional meeting of Arab higher education experts kick-started here on Monday, focusing on Arab higher education strategies.
