Syria (Aleppo) - Activities of the First International Conference on Arbitration started in Aleppo on Thursday with the participation of 7 Arab and European arbitration centers.

Omar al-Mansour from the office of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs said the government is working to raise awareness about arbitration and encourage it to reflect positively on the investment environment in Syria.

He pointed out that the purpose of arbitration is to encourage investment and contribute to achieving higher economic growth rates.

Chairman of Aleppo Center for International Commercial Arbitration Samir Zibdiya underscored the role of commercial arbitration in resolving trade and industrial disputes, local or international, between contracting and non-contracting parties.

He said that the Center is following advanced international standards and a statute that complies with the Syrian law.

President of the European Court of Arbitration Mauro Rubino Sammartano said arbitration is the only solution businessmen and industrialists resort to for resolving international disputes, which contributes to bolstering the basics of investment.

The Conference program includes lectures on arbitration measures, the relationship between the decisions of the judge in the country where the ruling is issued and those of the judge where the verdict is to be implemented, arbitration in engineering construction contracts, and the investment atmosphere in Syria.

Arbitration centers from Qatar, UAE, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Italy and France in addition to Aleppo Center are taking part in the Conference which will continue until October 6.
