Egypt (Cairo) - Egyptian Trade and Industry Minister Rasheed Mohamed Rasheed held talks with his Syrian and Libyan counterparts Lamia Assi and Muhammad Ali al-Huwayz, respectively, on the sidelines of meetings of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League (ESC).

A memo of understanding between Egypt and Libya was signed aiming at facilitating the movement of trade exchange and promoting cooperation in the industrial and investment fields, reports Global Arab Network according Egyptian media.

It is part of the Egyptian government's policies to boost economic ties with Arab countries and part of preparations for the second economic and social summit, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh in January.

Rasheed discussed with his Syrian counterpart the resumption of talks on forming a customs union between the two countries and reforming the Egyptian-Syrian business council to hold its first meeting in Cairo next November, Rasheed said.

Preparations for the third session of the Egyptian-Syrian trade committee were also tackled, he said, adding that it will be in March 2011 in Egypt's Alexandria.

In other development, Egypt has invited all Arab countries to the 2nd Arab economic and social summit, to be held on January 19 in Sharm El-Sheikh, said Trade and Industry Minister Rasheed Mohamed Rasheed.

At the conclusion of the ministerial meeting of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League (ESC) on Thursday, Rasheed expressed hope that the coming summit will complete what the first one has started.

The summit's main aim is to implement resolutions of the previous summit, which was held in Kuwait in 2009, he told reporters.

Egypt presented a detailed list to today's meeting about the activities that will be held on the sidelines of the summit, he said.

The federations of Arab chambers of commerce, business councils and developmental associations will hold extensive meetings during the summit, he noted.
